Research on Suppressing Shading from 3D Scanned Data using a Scanned Reference Model
Abstract. Despite a lot of research on character animation, it remains difficult for novice users to enter in-place motions and to control motion parameters using a touch-screen interface. We show how animations with in-place motions and interactions between characters and objects can be designed using a sketch-based authoring system based around a motion pod, which stores and replays the motions that take place on a specific section of a character’s path, and a sliding window, which is rectangle in a plane in space, on which a user can sketch the parameters of an in-place motion. A user test showed that this interface allows both novice and experienced users to produce complicated 3D animations quickly, and the experts’ performance on the same test using a commercial animation system was comparable.
